Program of Study
The Faculty of Pharmacy Program of Study is based on the concept that a successful student builds expertise in many specific areas of pharmacy by gaining mastery of foundation material from the pharmaceutical, biomedical, clinical and social sciences. The foundation material provides an intellectual framework on which experiential knowledge is built. Conversely, the experiential curriculum provides specific examples that validate the foundation principles taught. The Faculty embraces diversity in teaching approach, including active learning, traditional teaching strategies, up-to-date laboratories, robust use of technology, and an emphasis on learning as a life-long activity. The Faculty of Pharmacy Program of Study is meant to be constantly evolving to maintain a progressive and reiterative connection to interprofessional patient care and the pharmacy profession, both locally and globally.
Objectives
Pharmacy graduates should possess:
- Knowledge, decision making, and thinking abilities. Pharmacy graduates possess knowledge and understanding of the core information associated with the profession of pharmacy, including biomedical science; pharmaceutical science; social, behavioral, and administrative pharmacy sciences; clinical pharmacy science; and pharmacy practice. Pharmacy graduates will be able to utilize the principles of scientific inquiry; thinking analytically and critically.
- Communication abilities. Strong inter-personal and communication skills are a must for this job. There will be many difficult situations occurring on a daily basis and it will be necessary to liaise with a wide range of different people. Tolerance, subtlety, tact, understanding, and patience are essential skills to possess.
